- James Troy came to Australia from Ireland in 1852 by the ship "Lady Elgin" landed at Melbourne and engaged in pastoral pursuits at Colac acquiring land and dairying and mixed farming.
In 1880 he settled in Kerang on land selected by him two years previously , to which he bought his wife and family of 6 children by tilted waggon from Colac. James died in 1884 leaving aa widow and 8 children. Mrs (mn Commerford) Troy continued to farm the land with the assistance of his brother Cornelius Troy and a James Hickey setting up the Murrabit & Benjernoop Water trust irrigation.
The Troy family have long been associated with the farming interests of Victoria and is one of the oldest families in Kerang, Victoria Australia.
